Resolutions of Iftaa' Board

Date Added : 18-12-2017

Resolution No. (223) (6/2016)By The Board of Iftaa', Researches and Islamic Studies:

"Ruling on the Slaughtering done in Amman Slaughterhouse "

Date: 5/ Sha`ban/ 1437 AH, corresponding to 12/ 5 /2016 AD.

During its sixth session held on the above date, the Board received a question from Amman slaughterhouse concerning the ruling of Sharia on the slaughtering done there?

After deliberating, the Board decided the following:

Lawful slaughtering is that done to a living animal because Allah, The Almighty, Said (What means): "except for what you have sacrificed duly ." {Al-Mai`da/3}.  Also, The Prophet (PBUH) said: "and what you hunt with your untrained dog, and you find in a position that you slaughter it, then eat." {Agreed upon}. Besides, Al-Imam An-Nawawi said: "If a beast of prey has cut a sheep and its owner slaughtered it while it was alive, then it is lawful to eat from its meat, but if it wasn`t alive, then it is unlawful to eat from its meat." {Al-Majmou`}.

After it was made clear to us (Iftaa` Board) that the slaughtering carried out in public slaughterhouses is done to living animals, then, in principle, their meat is lawful and it is permissible to eat from it. And Allah Knows Best.

Summarized Fatawaa

Is abortion permissible when the family isn`t ready to receive a new baby?

Abortion is forbidden unless it constituted a serious threat against the mother`s life based on the opinion of trustful and God fearing physicians.

Is it permissible for a father to divide his property amongst his children except one under the pretext that he has paid for the latter`s tuition? This is knowing that his other children were given the opportunity to pursue their education but didn`t because they were educationally poor. Moreover, is he allowed to give his other children who have helped him with growing his business?

All perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May Allah`s peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.
The father should be just between his children as regards gifts, in case they had similar circumstances. However, if any had a special merit, then it is permissible for the father to take that into account to be just. For example, giving his children who have helped in making his fortune and received no reward for that or giving the little ones because they haven`t taken as much as the older ones or giving the sick child who is unable to make a living. The most important thing is achieving justice. Moreover, the father is not interdicted by any of his children, and he is free to do whatever he wants with his money and Allah will call him to account as regards observing justice between his children. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.

Are all the children of a suckling woman considered brothers to the strange child whom their mother had breastfed, or just to the one who had suckled with him?

All the children of the woman who had suckled a strange child are considered his/her brothers and sisters.

What is the best manner in distributing the meat of the Aqeeqah?

It is better to divide all of it as cooked meat amongst the poor and the needy. Dividing it into three portions is a Sunnah, but it is permissible to keep all of it provided that a portion, even a small one, is given to the poor and needy(one kilo for example).
