Resolution No.(38): "Ruling on a Gambling Game called "The Rocket Dollar"

Date: 6/5/1417 AH, corresponding to 19/9/1996

 

We have received the following question:

What is the ruling of Sharia concerning the gambling game called "The Rocket Dollar"?

Answer:

The Board reviewed the above game which has spread amongst a large number of people and after realizing its true nature and different dimensions, it decided the following:

It is a means of illegal gain and one form of gambling because it rests on risk and uncertainty. This is in addition to the fact that it leads to cutting down the flow of cash in society and driving it abroad; consequently, causing damage to the national economy. Allah, The Almighty, Has definitely Prohibited gambling. He Says (what means): "O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones, and (divination by) arrows, are an abomination,- of Satan’s handwork: eschew such (abomination), that ye may prosper." {Al-Mai`dah/90}. And Allah Knows Best.

What is the ruling on swearing on the Holy Quran and breaking that oath?

It is impermissible to swear on the Holy Quran in vain, and it is also impermissible to subject it to such an act since breaking the oath after swearing on the Quran entails an expiation.

Is it permissible for a wife to boycott (not to attend to his different needs) her husband?

It isn`t permissible for the woman to boycott her husband unless he is the reason behind that, and it is recommended that both spouses seek the advice of righteous people to make reconciliation.

I underwent a procedure for a molar pregnancy (hydatidiform mole), and after that, the bleeding continued for more than two months, during which I did not pray. Do I need to make up the missed prayers?

If you have previously experienced postpartum bleeding, the duration of the current bleeding is treated the same as your previous postpartum period. Any bleeding that exceeds this duration must be considered irregular bleeding (istihada), and you must make up the missed prayers. If this is the first time, then any bleeding beyond sixty days is considered irregular bleeding. You must perform ghusl, pray, and make up the prayers for the days beyond the sixty-day limit. Is abortion permissible when the family isn`t ready to receive a new baby?

Abortion is forbidden unless it constituted a serious threat against the mother`s life based on the opinion of trustful and God fearing physicians.
