About the General Fatwa Department

The Fatwa Department of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was founded in 1921. Since its formation, it has relied upon Hanafi fatwas which were in use during the Ottoman era, and the Mufti has answered the questions of members of the public, whether they relate to worship or financial transactions or personal statutes, and it has assigned a mufti to each judge in cities both large and small. Allah The Almighty Says (What means): "O you who have believed, fear Allah and be with the truthful" [At-Tawbah/119]. False statements contradict truthfulness, and it is not permissible to write them. A Muslim has the right to live in any Islamic country, and those who prevent him will be accountable before Allah about their action and the justification for the prohibition. And Allah Knows Best.

What is the ruling on a vowed animal sacrifice?

A vowed animal sacrifice is to be distributed amongst the poor and needy, and neither the vow-maker, nor those supported by him are to eat from it.

Is wearing a cap permissible for boys, or girls?

All Perfect Praise is due to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds.

In principle, anything is permissible sol long as there is no Sharia evidence prohibiting it, thus wearing the cap by boys is permissible as long as it isn`t done in imitation of the disbelievers. Moreover, a Muslim woman should avoid all that which attracts the attention of men because whatever leads to the forbidden is forbidden. And Allah Knows Best.

Some people eat raw lamb live. Is this permissible or not?

Praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.

There is no harm in eating raw lamb liver since this is permissible according to Sharia. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.

What is the ruling on going out wearing a long loose skirt with a long shirt that are neither tight nor revealing and without wearing any makeup?

This is permissible as long as it doesn`t attract the attention and isn`t considered adornment, and this varies according to the environment in which you live. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.

Is it permissible for a Muslim woman to wear trousers at home?

Wearing trousers at home isn't prohibited so long as non-Mahrams do not see her. And Allah Knows Best.

What is the ruling on someone who vowed to fast for two consecutive months, but failed to do so?

He is obliged to fulfill his vow by fasting for two consecutive months, but if he fails to do so then, it remains a debt on him until he either fulfills his vow, or dies. In case of his death, his guardian is supposed to fast on his behalf, or donate food from his estate in return for fasting, but if the guardian fails to do so then, it is all in the Hands of Allah.

Is it allowed for me to donate a flat to each of my children except one considering that the tuition fees I paid for the latter`s university study are equal to the price of the flat? In other words, he has received his share and this is why I`m donating a flat to my other children?
