About the General Fatwa Department

The Fatwa Department of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was founded in 1921. Since its formation, it has relied upon Hanafi fatwas which were in use during the Ottoman era, and the Mufti has answered the questions of members of the public, whether they relate to worship or financial transactions or personal statutes, and it has assigned a mufti to each judge in cities both large and small. After Allah grants you complete healing, make up the prayers you performed with your finger to the best of your ability, at times that suit you. And Allah Knows Best.

How many pieces of cloth are used to enshroud a deceased man, and a deceased woman?

A deceased woman is enshrouded in five pieces of cloth: head cover, wrapper, shirt , and two folds of cloth. On the other hand, a deceased man is enshrouded with three pieces of cloth.

Is it a condition that one should offer two sacrifices for a male newborn?

It is desirable to offer two sheep for a male newborn, and one for a female newborn. Offering one sheep for the male newborn is also permissible as it observes the Prophet`s Sunnah in this regard.

Is it permissible to slaughter one animal as a sacrifice and an Aqeeqah (the sheep slaughtered on the seventh day from the child`s birth)?

It is impermissible to do so since each of them is slaughtered for a different reason.

What is the ruling of Sharia when a woman leaves her house at one in the morning without husband`s consent?

All perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May His peace and blessings be upon Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.

It is unlawful for a woman to leave her house without husband`s consent. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.

What is the best remedy for a person who experiences Waswasah (whispers of the devil) during Salah (prayer)?

Such a person should ignore the devil`s whispers, contemplate the Quranic chapters and verses that he/she recites, look directly at the place of Sujood (prostration), make supplication to Allah, and take refuge in Him from the cursed devil.

Am I Permitted to Use Ill-gotten Money given to me from Sorcerer's Sons during during my Mother's condolence?

You are permitted to use this money if you were ascertain that the majority of his lawful money surpasses the unlawful one. And Allah Knows Best.

When Iddah is Initiated for Deceased's Wife?

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds, and may His Peace and Blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all of his family and companions.

Iddah is observed on the same date at which her husband passed away for four months, but as for the pregnant, it is observed at the date she gives birth. And Allah Knows Best.
