About the General Fatwa Department

The Fatwa Department of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was founded in 1921. Since its formation, it has relied upon Hanafi fatwas which were in use during the Ottoman era, and the Mufti has answered the questions of members of the public, whether they relate to worship or financial transactions or personal statutes, and it has assigned a mufti to each judge in cities both large and small. Yes it is permissible for you to fast because impurity isn't among valid fasting conditions, but you are obliged to perform ritual impurity in order to catch up Fajr prayer at its due time. And Allah Knows Best.

Vowed fast should be offered in line with what was originally intended by the vow-maker, either consecutively, or not.

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds. Any other part of Qur'an that a worshiper reads after Al-Faatihah during the first and the second Rak`ahs is a Sunnah, and forgetting to do so doesn`t nullify prayer, and doesn`t require performing Sujood As-Sahw (prostration of forgetfulness). I`m in love with a certain man, and want to marry him in particular, but my family refused that, what should I do?

The father should know what is in the best interest of his daughter and consider her situation. On her part, the daughter should trust her father`s view point as far as suitors are concerned. Moreover, it is prohibited for any woman, or girl to get involved in a relation with a non-Mahram (Marriageable man).

Is it permissible to recite the Holy Qur'an or to play a recording at mourning gatherings? Or is it considered an innovation?

Whenever Qur'anic verses are recited, it is obligatory upon everyone to listen, otherwise; they should remain silent. And Allah Knows Best.

Is it disliked to clip one`s nails at night, and to burn them afterwards?

It is recommended to bury hair and nails that have been removed and to conceal them in the ground. As for burning nails, we have not found any specific prohibition against it, but adhering to what is supported by evidence—burying the nails—is preferable. And Allah Knows Best.

After buying tires, I made an oath not to buy tires from a person. Afterwards, he offered his entire car for sale. What is the ruling on this?

If you bought the entire car and in order to be on the safe side, you should pay an expiation; feeding 10 poor people and the cost of feeding a person is half a JD. And Allah Knows Best.
