About the General Fatwa Department

The Fatwa Department of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was founded in 1921. Since its formation, it has relied upon Hanafi fatwas which were in use during the Ottoman era, and the Mufti has answered the questions of members of the public, whether they relate to worship or financial transactions or personal statutes, and it has assigned a mufti to each judge in cities both large and small. What is the best remedy for a person who experiences Waswasah (whispers of the devil) during Salah (prayer)?

Such a person should ignore the devil`s whispers, contemplate the Quranic chapters and verses that he/she recites, look directly at the place of Sujood (prostration), make supplication to Allah, and take refuge in Him from the cursed devil.

What is the ruling when the duration of the monthly period varies, and sporadically increases?

If the period didn`t exceed (15) days from the first seeing of blood discharges until its end including the times of temporary cessation, then it is menses. But, if the period exceeded (15) days, then the woman experiencing this is Mostahadah (bleeding outside the time of monthly period), and should abide by her regular period, and consult one of the scholars.

Is it permissible for men to wear silver bracelets and necklaces?

Men are allowed to wear silver rings, but they aren`t allowed to wear bracelets and necklaces because by doing so they imitate women. And Allah Knows Best.

The General Iftaa Department is pleased to extend its warmest congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Al-Hasanat on the issuance of the royal decree appointing him as the Grand Mufti of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Is permissible to buy/sell with non-Muslim?

Yes buying/selling for a Muslim with non-Muslim is permissible as regards what is lawful.

Is it permissible for the mother to offer an Aqeeqah (the sheep slaughtered on the seventh day from the child`s birth)for her son?

Aqeeqah is due on the one obliged to provide for the newborn, and it is permissible for the grandfather, or the mother to offer the Aqeeqah.

Does passing wind, from the anus without a smell, invalidate prayer?

If a person is certain of having passed wind even if it was with no smell, then both his/her ablution and prayer are invalidated, thus he/she should remake ablution and re-perform prayer.

What is the expiation for perjury?

Perjury is forbidden and one of the major sins that require turning to Allah in repentance, seeking His forgiveness, giving back rights to whom they belong, or seeking their forgiveness, and expiating for that oath.
