About the General Fatwa Department

The Fatwa Department of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was founded in 1921. Since its formation, it has relied upon Hanafi fatwas which were in use during the Ottoman era, and the Mufti has answered the questions of members of the public, whether they relate to worship or financial transactions or personal statutes, and it has assigned a mufti to each judge in cities both large and small. The judge seeks the mufti's assistance in solving social problems, just as the mufti refers to the judge matters which are not within the mufti's jurisdiction and which require evidence and witnesses....

Therefore, you must pronounce the two testimonies of faith (Shahada) and reconcile with your wife if she is in her waiting period (Iddah). It is recommended to consult the Department of Fatwa for further guidance. And Allah Knows Best.

Is it permissible to perform Tayammum for a month due to a medical condition that requires avoiding water?

Tayammum is permissible so long as the above excuse lasts. And Allah Knows Best.

Is my husband entitled to take my salary?

Your salary is yours, and you may give some of it to him as a kind of free-will contribution.

Is it permissible for a father to disinherit his disobedient, alcohol consuming son and his daughter who had fled home and never returned?

It is permissible to give heirs some money because of their being extra obedient or needy. As far as inheritance is concerned, it is to be divided after one`s death, so it had better be left to the court itself. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.

Is it permissible to delay menses by using medication in order to fast Ramadhaan?

It is permissible for a woman to use medication in order to delay her menses so that it becomes eligible for fasting Ramadhaan, but it is better that she doesn`t do so, and taking the medication is prohibited if she, or her doctors knew that it involves risk on her health. And Allah Knows Best.

Is permissible to abort my embryo if there was a risk on my Life?

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds, and may His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all of his family and companions Abortion is permissible if it was confirmed that the existence of the fetus within his mother's Belly might cause her certain death.Therefore, abortion is permissible if the above conditions were met. And Allah Knows Best.

Is a woman`s neck an Awrah (private part)?

It is an Awrah, and it is forbidden for her to reveal it before non-Mahrams (Marriageable men). And Allah Knows Best.

A person prays in a certain spot within the rows of the mosque, and gets angry if someone else prayed at his spot. What is the ruling on this behavior?

All Perfect Praise be to Allah The Lord of The Worlds and may His Peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all of his family and companions Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) make it prohibited for a Muslim from having/taking a certain spot in the mosque when performing prayers if they arrived and find it occupied, furthermore; it is the religious duty on others (praying people) to offer a piece of advice to alert the ones who don't know, that whoever reaches a spot first at the mosque having a priority/privilege upon others in that spot. And Allah Knows Best.
