About the General Fatwa Department

The Fatwa Department of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was founded in 1921. Since its formation, it has relied upon Hanafi fatwas which were in use during the Ottoman era, and the Mufti has answered the questions of members of the public, whether they relate to worship or financial transactions or personal statutes, and it has assigned a mufti to each judge in cities both large and small. What should a sick person, who is incapable of fasting, and who didn`t make up for missed fasting days, do?

One who has missed fasting days is obliged to make up for them, but if he/she wasn`t able to because of an incurable disease , or old age, then he/she has to pay a ransom which is feeding a needy person for each of the missed fasting days. And Allah Knows Best.

What is the expiation for being forced to give a false testimony in order to achieve reform?

Achieving reform is done by following the way of Allah through giving back rights to whom they belong. Therefore, repenting to Allah from false testimony is only achieved by abrogating it, and the person in question should expiate for that oath if he had taken it, so that Allah may forgive him.

Should vowed fast be offered in consecutive days, or not?

Vowed fast should be offered in line with what was originally intended by the vow-maker, either consecutively, or not.

What is the torment of the grave?

We seek refuge in Allah from the torment of the grave. The important point is that the cause of the torment of the grave is disbelief or committing sins without repentance. It affects the soul, and the body is impacted by it, even if we do not see it. And Allah Knows Best.

Making up missed voluntary acts of worship is from Sunnah.

You are permitted to use this money if you were ascertain that the majority of his lawful money surpasses the unlawful one. And Allah Knows Best.

What is the ruling on making a false oath?

Making false oath indulges its maker in Hell; therefore, he is obliged to repent, ask Allah for forgiveness and make an expiation; feeding 10 poor or providing clothes for them and in case of incapability of doing any of latters he should fast for 3 consecutive days. And Allah Knows Best.

Is it permissible to go to the bathroom wearing a necklace that has the word "Allah" inscribed on it?
