About the General Fatwa Department

The Fatwa Department of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was founded in 1921. Since its formation, it has relied upon Hanafi fatwas which were in use during the Ottoman era, and the Mufti has answered the questions of members of the public, whether they relate to worship or financial transactions or personal statutes, and it has assigned a mufti to each judge in cities both large and small. The judge seeks the mufti's assistance in solving social problems, just as the mufti refers to the judge matters which are not within the mufti's jurisdiction and which require evidence and witnesses....

It is offered after Tasleem.

A person bought a device through a usurious bank, and receives income from it every month after paying the bank for the price. Now the person regrets it, what should he do now?

This person has fallen into what is forbidden due to dealing with usury. He must repent sincerely, and whoever repents, Allah Will Accept their repentance. As for the device, there is no need to sell it. And Allah Knows Best

How should I deal with the whispers of the devil with regard to ablution and purity?

Whispers in ablution are from the devil, and so you should take refuge in Allah from the devil`s evil suggestions that aim to distort the religion. Thus, once an organ is completely pure, don`t question its purity since having whispers doesn`t mean that the purity is invalid as it has already been established.

Is the two Raka's after Friday Prayer an act of Sunna?

Performing Two prostrations after the call of Friday's Athan is an act of Sunna, since Al-Bukhari stated in his Sahih: (The chapter of praying before and after Friday's prayer). This indicates that he mentions Friday's prayer exactly as the Duhr prayer (Afternoon prayer) as regards praying before and after the call of Athan. And Allah Knows Best.

Is it permissible for us to sever ties of kinship if our blood-relatives` gatherings/meetings involve acts of sin?

Observing kinship ties is obligatory, and paying your blood-relatives a visit causing their sinful acts to be hindered , then you should do so. However, if their sinful acts continue while you are at their gathering and they didn't respond positively, then observing kinship ties via telephone and the like will suffice in this case. What does the name "Mai`es" mean?

"Mai`es” and "Mais`san": strutting. "Mai`es" : a tree` of high-quality wood, and giving this name to your daughter is permissible.

Is it permissible to swear by (Allah "The Living")?

Yes, it is permissible because "The Living" is one of Allah`s Attributes.

What are the benefits of slaughtering an Aqeeqah?

All Perfect Praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds, and may His Peace and Blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all of his family and companions. Extending thanks to Allah for His grace, expressing happiness for having a newborn, declaring lineage, and feeding the mother to compensate for the blood that she had lost during delivery.
