Question :

I work for a company that creates computerized programs for enterprises and trade companies. I was told to download a computerized program for a company that trades solely in liquor. Do I incur sin for delivering this task?

The Answer :

All perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.

It is forbidden to create programs and systems that help liquor companies promote more of their products as this is helping in sin and rancour. Allah the Almighty Says {What means}: " Help ye one another in righteousness and piety, but help ye not one another in sin and rancour: fear Allah. for Allah is strict in punishment." {Al-Mai`dah,2}. He the Exalted also Says{What means}: "O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones, and (divination by) arrows, are an abomination,- of Satan’s handwork: eschew such (abomination), that ye may prosper. Satan’s plan is (but) to excite enmity and hatred between you, with intoxicants and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allah, and from prayer: will ye not then abstain?" {Al-Mai`dah, 90-91}. In addition, Narrated Anas bin Malik: "The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) Cursed ten involved in wine: The one who presses it, the one who has it pressed, its drinker, its carrier, and the one it is carried to, its server, its seller, the consumption of its price, the one who purchases it and the one it was purchased for." {Related by Tirmithi}.

In conclusion, Allah the Almighty Has Commanded us to help one another in piety and righteousness, not in sin and rancour, and a true Muslim wouldn`t help in promoting unlawful things. And Allah the Almighty Knows Best.
