Question :

What is the ruling on writing patients` names on containers with urine, stool or blood samples for analysis; especially if they (The names) included some of Allah's attributes. For example, Abdullah and Abdurahman?

The Answer :

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds, and may His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all of his family and companions.

Registering names on containers of samples for medical analysis is permissible so long as none of Allah's names and attributes is involved. This is because Allah`s names and attributes are of special sanctity. Therefore, writing them on such containers is prohibited.(*) Kindly refer to [Tohfat Al-Muhtaj Fi Sharih Al-Minhaj] and [Hawashi Al-Shrwani Ala Tohfat Al-Muhtaj]. It is incumbent upon those in charge of registering patients` names on the above containers to figure out a suitable solution , such as writing a code instead of the name or writing the names in a foreign language. And Allah Knows Best.
