Question :

I used to masturbate and took an oath not to do so, but this didn’t last for too long and I did it again. What is due on me?

The Answer :

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds, and may His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all of his family and companions.

Masturbation is impermissible because Allah said (What means):” And who guard their modesty -Save from their wives or the (slaves) that their right hands possess, for then they are not blameworthy But whoso craveth beyond that, such are transgressors.” [Al-Mu’minun 5-7]. In this verse,Allah,The Exalted Called those who don’t guard their modesty in front of any woman “transgressors “and this is an apparent prove on the impermissibility of masturbation.

As been clarified in Fatwa No. (246) on our website.

You should ask Allah for forgiveness, repent and make your mind not to redo it as

In conclusion, you are obliged to pay oath’s expiation, since it is bound with your intention. Further, the broken oath’s expiation is: feeding 10 poor Muslims, a Mud (600g of the common food of the country) for each, which equals (50 piaster -1 JD), since Allah, The Exalted Said (What means): ”Allah will not take you to task for that which is unintentional in your oaths, but He will take you to task for the oaths which ye swear in earnest. The expiation thereof is the feeding of ten of the needy with the average of that wherewith ye feed your own folk, or the clothing of them, or the liberation of a slave, and for him who findeth not (the wherewithal to do so) then a three days’ fast. This is the expiation of your oaths when ye have sworn; and keep your oaths. Thus Allah expoundeth unto you His revelations in order that ye may give thanks.” [Al-Mai’dah/89]. And Allah Knows Best.
