Resolution No.(23): By The Board of Iftaa', Researches and Islamic Studies: "Being a Member of Jordan Radio and Television Association for Housing"

Date: 30/04/1413 AH, corresponding to 27/01/1997AD

What is the ruling on subscribing in the membership of Jordan Radio and Television Association for Housing whereas it deals with usurious transactions as stated in some of its internal system's articles? 

Answer: All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds, and may His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all of his family and companions.

After thorough study of the internal system of the aforementioned association, it turns out that some of its articles compel the subscriber to deal with usurious transactions with the association itself in some cases and to make life insurance in order to regain what been paid by the association on behalf of the subscriber. And Allah Knows Best.

Is it permissible for a Muslim physician to specialize in GYNECOLOGY OBSTETRICS, and what is the ruling on working as such?

Some fields of knowledge are an individual duty while others are a collective one, and specializing in GYNECOLOGY OBSTETRICS is a collective duty. However, if there were female physicians to treat women, then there is no need for a male GYNECOLOGY OBSTETRICS specialist to look at women`s Awrahs (private parts) except in necessary situations since the jurisprudential maxim says:” Necessity must only be assessed and answered proportionately.”

Is it permissible to single out Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays to make up for missed fasting without fasting a day before ,or after each ?

Yes, it is permissible to make up for missed fasting during the aforesaid days, and it is also valid to offer non-obligatory and vowed fasting as well. However, fasting a day before or after each isn`t obligatory.

Is it permissible to divide the Aqeeqah amongst one`s brothers and family?

Giving a portion of the Aqeeqah, even a small one, to the poor and needy is obligatory, and if one`s brothers and family are among the needy then, they are more entitled to it, and this way it is a charity and an observation of kinship ties. However, if they aren`t needy then, it is permissible to give them from the Aqeeqah after giving the poor and needy their share.

Is it permissible to give Zakah(obligatory charity) to one`s poor sister, or brother?

It is permissible for one to give the Zakah to his poor sister, or brother if providing for them isn`t due on him, and the sister doesn`t receive sufficient provision from whomever that is due on.
