Resolution No.(101) by the Board of Iftaa`, Research and Islamic Studies

 “Sharia Ruling on Lying in Sale”

Date: 4/4/1427 AH, corresponding to 3/5/2006 AD

 

 

 

 

Question:

 

Is it permissible for a trader to say that a certain item is made in Italy-for example-while it is either made in China, or made in China and shipped to Italy, or most of its parts are made in Italy and some of them are made in China?

Answer: 

The Board is of the view that a Muslim-whether a trader, a salesman, or whatever his work may be-must be truthful in all that he says and always tell the truth about each item that he promotes. It is forbidden for him to resort to lying and cheating under any circumstances. Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said: “Truth leads to piety and piety leads to Jannah(Paradise). A man persists in speaking the truth till he is recorded with Allah as a truthful man. Falsehood leads to transgression and transgression leads to the Hell-fire. A man continues to speak falsehood till he is recorded with Allah as a great liar.“ {Bukhari & Muslim}. He also said: “He who deceives isn`t of us.“ {Muslim}. And he (PBUH) said: “A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim, so it is impermissible for a Muslim to sell a deficient item to his brother without mentioning that to him “ {Bukhari}. The Messenger of Allah commanded men to treat women kindly, so marital problems should be solved through understanding, and whatever causes harm to a woman is forbidden. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.

Is the prayer of someone who didn`t face Quibla (Ka`ba direction) valid?

All perfect praise be to Allah,The Lord of The Worlds.                                                                                                                                                              Facing the Quibla is a condition for the validity of prayer, and the prayer of the person who hadn`t faced the direction of the Quibla is invalid, and he is obliged to repeat it. And Allah Knows Best.

What is the ruling of Sharia on tubal ligation?

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.
Undergoing tubal ligation* to protect the mother`s health is permissible provided that this procedure is performed based on professional opinion of trustworthy medical doctors. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.
 

*Tubal ligation is a surgical procedure for female sterilization in which the fallopian tubes are permanently blocked, clipped or removed. This prevents the fertilization of eggs by sperm and thus the implantation of a fertilized egg. Tubal ligation is considered a permanent method of sterilization and birth control.

 

 

What is the ruling of Sharia on marrying a Jewish woman, dealing with the Jews, and going to Israel?

All perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May Allah`s peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.
It is allowed for a Muslim to marry a Jewish or a Christian woman provided that this doesn`t affect his religion. As for dealing with the Jews who are outside Palestine, it is the same as dealing with the Christians; it is permissible as long as it doesn`t harm Islam. As for dealing with the Jews who are inside Palestine, the ruling differs depending on the persons themselves and the situations. By the end of the day, a believer`s heart leads him/her to what is good. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.
