Resolution No.(141),(6/2010): "Ruling on Investment at the Dead Sea Area"

Date: 7/5/1430AH, corresponding to 24/4/2010AD

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.

During its fourth session held on the above date, the Board reviewed the questions sent by Jordan Heritage Revival Company regarding the ruling of Sharia on swimming and picknicking at the Dead Sea area as well as investing that area in building hotels that neither serve alcoholic drinks, nor contain any forbidden matters.

After thorough studying and deliberating, the Board decided what follows:

The Board is of the view that it is permissible to invest the Dead Sea area in building hotels so long as these don`t sell any forbidden items such as alcoholic drinks, or pork, and don`t have mixed swimming pools. As regards swimming and pickncking in that area, there is no Sharia approved evidence that forbids doing that, because in principle things are permissible unless forbidden by an established evidence from Sharia: the Noble Quran and the Prophetic Sunnah.  have an amount of 2,700 Jordanian dinars, which I have invested in a project, and I pay zakat on it every year. However, I have debts and obligations, and this project yields only a profit of about 2-4%. My salary is not enough to support myself and my family to the extent that I cannot pay the electricity bills. Is it permissible for me to take from the above Zakat?
 

You permitted to take from your Zakat since your income insufficient for you, because the poor is permitted to take from the Zakat in general, besides; the poor is identified of whose income doesn't suffice him. And Allah Knows Best.

Is my son who was breastfed one filling time by my aunt considered a brother to her children?

The baby who was suckled five sporadic times by a woman is considered a son/daughter of hers.

If the Prophet (PBUH) was an Arab citizen in 2009, born in an Arab country ruled by an Arab ruler, saw what was happening to Gaza, what would he (PBUH) have done?

Had the Prophet (PBUH) been amongst us, Muslims would have supported him, and then he would do whatever pleases the heart of every Muslim. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.

I work at a company that provides cash advances of 800 dinars, 1000 dinars, or 1200 dinars, depending on the employee’s years of service. An administrative fee of 40 dinars is deducted from the amount in the first month, and the remaining amount is repaid in installments. What is the ruling on this, knowing that the deducted amount (40 dinars) is fixed?

We fear that the deducted amount may be a means of circumventing interest (Riba). If the deducted amount is equal to or less than the actual administrative expenses, then there is no issue, as some scholars permit the borrower to bear the costs of documenting and managing the loan. However, piety suggests refraining from taking this loan under these conditions, as dealing with private individuals and companies is not the same as dealing with the state, which spends from the public treasury.
