The Fatwa Department of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was founded in 1921. Since its formation, it has relied upon Hanafi fatwas which were in use during the Ottoman era, and the Mufti has answered the questions of members of the public, whether they relate to worship or financial transactions or personal statutes, and it has assigned a mufti to each judge in cities both large and small. Is it permissible for a young man and a young woman to enter into a covenant as a married couple without having a true seclusion (Khalwah) until their marriage contract is officially concluded?

The relation which isn`t based on a marriage contract is forbidden, and entering into a covenant as a married couple is unaccounted for and is from the evil suggestions of the devil.

Is it permissible for women to gather in one of their homes to pray Tarawih?

Yes, it is recommended (mustahabb) for women to pray Tarawih in congregation if they gather, even if it is not in the mosque.

In fact, praying at home is better for them, as it avoids the potential concerns associated with going to the mosque.

What is the age of the Aqiqa or the Udhiyah?

Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon our Master, the Messenger of Allah.

The minimum age for a sacrificial animal (Udhiyah) and the birth sacrifice (Aqiqa) is as follows:

Camels: Five years old, entering their sixth year.

Cattle and Goats: Two years old, entering their third year.

Sheep: One year old, entering their second year; however, it is permissible for a sheep to be six months old provided it is large in size and plump.

And Allah the Exalted knows best.

Is the prayer of someone who didn`t face Quibla (Ka`ba direction) valid?

All perfect praise be to Allah,The Lord of The Worlds. Facing the Quibla is a condition for the validity of prayer, and the prayer of the person who hadn`t faced the direction of the Quibla is invalid, and he is obliged to repeat it. And Allah Knows Best.

What is the ruling on fasting only on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday?

In voluntary fasting (nafl), it is disliked (makruh) to fast only on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

However:

● If one fasts a day before or after Friday, then that is permissible.

● The same applies to Saturday and Sunday—fasting them along with another day removes the dislike.

● Fasting all three days (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) together is not disliked.

If any of these days coincide with a recommended fasting day, such as Arafah or Ashura, then fasting it alone is not disliked.

Is it permissible for a woman to lead other women in prayer?

Yes, it is permissible for a woman to lead other women in prayer. The most knowledgeable among them in the rulings of prayer should act as the imam. She should stand in the middle of the row, slightly ahead of the others.
