The Iftaa` Department Condemns the Terrorist Incident in Sri Lanka

 

The General Iftaa` Department condemns the cowardly terrorist incident that targeted a group of churches and hotels in Sri Lanka, which resulted in the loss of innocent lives, attacks on places of worship, and intimidation of safe people. This horrible act contradicts with the higher objectives of Islamic Law as well as all divine laws. It also contradicts with the provisions of Islamic law which aim to enhance peace and security, stop bloodshed and protect places of worship. Such cowardly acts targeting worshippers and places of worship contribute in spreading hatred amongst people and create obstacles amongst them, which keeps them in a state of continued struggle instead of cooperation for the good of humanity.

 

The Department extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to the wounded.

 

We ask Allah to protect Jordan from every evil and bless it with continued peace and security.

Is it permissible for a woman in her menstrual period to recite from the Mus-haf (copy of the Quran ), or to recite by heart?

A menstruating woman is permitted neither to recite nor to touch the Quran according to what Ali Bin Abi Talib (May Allah be pleased with him) reported about the Prophet (PBUH) who was only held from reciting the Holy Quran by Janabah (Major impurity) [Al-Tirmizi in a sound Hadith]. Although Janabah and menstruation are major impurities, a menstruating woman is permitted to supplicate Allah (Duaa`) and make Zikr (Tasbihat ), even if these involved saying words from the Holy Quran, provided that she does not mean the words for themselves but as a supplication, or Zikr. Moreover, she is rewarded for not reciting the Quran during her menstrual period because she abided by the injunctions of Allah.

Is it permissible for the heirs of the person who caused the accident (The Killer) to fast (The intended as an expiation for unintentional killing) on his behalf if the latter died in the crash?

One who dies while liable for obligatory fast, his/her guardians have the choice to either fast on his/her behalf or feed one poor Muslim for each day of missed fast. This applies to Ramadan and other obligatory fast, and since expiatory fast is obligatory, feeding a poor person for each missed day or fasting on behalf of the deceased is obligatory as well. Whoever conditions disbelief on something and intends to disbelieve if it happens, he becomes a disbeliever immediately. Therefore, you must pronounce the two testimonies of faith (Shahada) and reconcile with your wife if she is in her waiting period (Iddah). It is impermissible to deny a woman her right in getting married except for a lawful reason, and problems can be solved through dialogue. However, she can file a suit in order for the judge to have a say in that regard.
