The Iftaa` Department Condemns the Terrorist Incident in Sri Lanka

 

The General Iftaa` Department condemns the cowardly terrorist incident that targeted a group of churches and hotels in Sri Lanka, which resulted in the loss of innocent lives, attacks on places of worship, and intimidation of safe people. This horrible act contradicts with the higher objectives of Islamic Law as well as all divine laws. It also contradicts with the provisions of Islamic law which aim to enhance peace and security, stop bloodshed and protect places of worship. Such cowardly acts targeting worshippers and places of worship contribute in spreading hatred amongst people and create obstacles amongst them, which keeps them in a state of continued struggle instead of cooperation for the good of humanity.

 

The Department extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to the wounded.

 

We ask Allah to protect Jordan from every evil and bless it with continued peace and security.

Imam Al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Zakat must be paid immediately if one is able to do so, by the presence of wealth and the eligible categories." [Al-Minhaj] Therefore, the committee must distribute the zakat to the eligible recipients without installment payments or using it to purchase material goods for them, as the committee does not have authority over the poor to allocate it in this way. Whispers in ablution are from the devil, and so you should take refuge in Allah from the devil`s evil suggestions that aim to distort the religion. Thus, once an organ is completely pure, don`t question its purity since having whispers doesn`t mean that the purity is invalid as it has already been established.

Yes, it is permissible for her to do so.

Is it permissible to give my zakat to my grandson who is studying at university, while I am living abroad and my money is in my home country? Also, is it permissible to assign my father the responsibility of distributing the zakat to the people in my home country?

 

It is permissible to give zakat to a son whom his father is supporting if he is an adult and in good health, because his father is not obligated to support him, making him one of the poor among the Muslims. However, the student who may receive zakat is one who is diligent in seeking beneficial knowledge for the Muslims and is religious. Zakat should be paid in the country where the money is located, and appointing your father to distribute the zakat in the country where the money is is the correct approach. And Allah Knows Best.
