A Statement on the 10th Anniversary of Amman Bombings

 

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds, and may His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.

At this time of every year, Jordanians mark the anniversary of the bombings that ripped through three hotels in Amman on Nov.9th, 2005, killing and wounding many innocent civilians. This series of coordinated bomb attacks was conducted by a terrorist group that harbors radical ideologies.

 

The General Iftaa` Department prays that Allah bestows His mercy on the martyrs, admits them into Heaven, and empowers their families with patience and solace. The Department calls upon Jordanians to be united and persistent against terrorist and extremist ideologies which don`t represent the tolerant values of Islam, and are weird to our society.

 

Moreover, the Department calls upon Jordanians to support the ceaseless efforts of the armed forces and the security departments in fighting terrorist groups in order to preserve our unity, security, and stability.

 

The Department prays that Allah The Almighty keeps Jordan peaceful and secure under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah the second, and wishes the same for all Muslim countries. And All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of Worlds.

What is the expiation for perjury?

One who commits perjury should repent, seek Allah`s forgiveness and offer an expiation which is: feeding ten indigent persons, or clothing them, or giving a slave his freedom, but if that is beyond his means then, he should fast for three days. Allah, The Almighty, Says in this regard (What means): "Allah will not call you to account for what is futile in your oaths, but He will call you to account for your deliberate oaths: for expiation, feed ten indigent persons, on a scale of the average for the food of your families; or clothe them; or give a slave his freedom. If that is beyond your means, fast for three days. That is the expiation for the oaths ye have sworn. But keep to your oaths. Thus doth Allah make clear to you His signs, that ye may be grateful." [Al-Ma`idah/89].

Is it permissible to add the nutmeg to one`s food?

Using a little bit of the nutmeg for seasoning is permissible, but using a great deal of it is impermissible since it could lead to intoxication, and Islam has forbidden all intoxicants and stupefacients. And Allah Knows Best.

What is the ruling on taking a loan from an interest-based bank (a usurious bank) to buy an apartment for housing, noting that I am renting at a high amount relative to my income, and I am an employee? Also, considering that the conditions of Islamic banks are strict, and I cannot obtain the full amount from them, is it permissible to take a loan to purchase an apartment or not? Usury (interest) is prohibited by Islamic law, and the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, cursed the one who consumes usury, the one who pays it, its recorder, and its witnesses. Whoever leaves something for the sake of Allah, Allah will compensate them with something better and greater, and Allah will provide relief after hardship. It is impermissible for the guardian to donate from the money of the orphans because he is entrusted with the safekeeping of that money, and is prohibited from donating it.
