General Iftaa` Department Wins King Abdullah II Award for Excellence in Government Performance and Transparency

The General Iftaa` Department won King Abdullah II Award for Excellence in Government Performance and Transparency (First position), as first-time participant, on Wednesday, fifth of Sept. 2018.

Dr Mufti Mohammad Al-Zou`bihas also won the King`s Award for theLeading Employee Category. 

Winners for the cycle 2017/2018 were announced during the ceremony heldunder the patronage of His majesty King Abdullah IIat the Royal Cultural Centre.

The Grand Mufti, Dr Mohammad Al-Khalayleh said that the Award came because of the tremendous effortsmade by the Muftis and other staff members. He added that it manifests the spirit of teamwork, which is encouraged by Sharia.

On its part, the Iftaa` Dept. has exerted ceaseless efforts in developing its services and clarifying the rulings of Sharia which reflect the bright image of Islam in line with the themes of the Amman Message and the sound thought of the Hashemite leadershipto help counter extremist views in our society.

Is It Permissible to Divorce One's Wife for not Praying

All perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May His peace and blessings be upon Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.
You should do your best to save her from hellfire by making her observe daily prayers on their prescribed times, even if this means giving her a generous incentive. However, if she insisted on her position, then it is permissible for you to divorce her. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.

Is performing Umrah an obligation for who is capable. Is he accountable for not performing it in this case?

Umrah is an obligation once in a lifetime for every Muslim. When physical and financial ability is present, it is preferable to perform Umrah, as well as Hajj. If one can afford to perform Umrah but not Hajj, then they should begin with Umrah, especially since Hajj nowadays is not accessible to everyone who wishes to perform it. We collect funds from mosques and other sources, saying: "For the poor, the needy, widows, orphans, and those who do not beg insistently." After paying the stipends of the families registered with the Zakat Committee, an amount exceeding 6,000 dinars remained. Is it permissible for me to save it for upcoming months when I may not be able to collect the stipends?

These funds are received by the committee as representatives of the zakat payers to deliver zakat to those entitled to it. It is well-known that delaying zakat while being able to pay it is not permissible. Imam Al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Zakat must be paid immediately if one is able to do so, by the presence of wealth and the eligible categories." [Al-Minhaj] Therefore, the committee must distribute the zakat to the eligible recipients without installment payments or using it to purchase material goods for them, as the committee does not have authority over the poor to allocate it in this way. And Allah Knows Best.
