All perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May His peace and blessings be upon Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.
The ruling on converting photographs into drawings using artificial intelligence depends on the nature of their use and the content being exchanged through such images. If the content and form of the exchanged material do not contradict Islamic rulings, values, and ethics, then it is permissible. Otherwise, it is not. This technology is not considered the same as prohibited human-drawn images (tasweer), nor does it carry the same rulings, as it is merely a digital transformation of photographs through technology.
However, the following Islamic guidelines must be observed when using such technology:
First: Avoiding Shari’ah Violations: The image must not contain anything Islamically prohibited, nor should it be used in unlawful content—such as exposing private parts (awrah), appearing in a forbidden manner, or similar violations.
Second: Prohibition of Mockery and Bullying: One must not use such images to mock, ridicule, or bully others, in compliance with Allah’s command: "O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them..." [Al-Hujurat/11].
Third: Avoiding Deception and Fraud: The images must not be used for lying, forgery, fraud, or deceit.
In conclusion, if these Islamic conditions are met and all prohibitions are avoided, then using this technology is permissible. Otherwise, it is not. And Allah the Almighty knows best.
