Question :

My wife bought a car from her own gold and later she sold it to her sister. Is she permitted to do so without informing me?

The Answer :

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds, and may His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all of his family and companions.

The wife has a financial disclosure separated from the husband, therefore no one has the right of what she owe even her husband save with her consent and will, since the husband is obliged to spend on her even if she was employed as well as she has the priority over his parents even they were poor for Allah, The Exalted said (What means):” Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because God has given the one more (strength) than the other, and because they support them from their means.” An-Nisa’/34]

Further, the gold by which the wife bought a car is only hers whether it was from her dowry or was given to her as a gift from her husband, since Allah, The Exalted said (What means):” even if ye had given the latter a whole treasure for dower, Take not the least bit of it back: Would ye take it by slander and manifest wrong?” [An-Nisa’/20]. Consequently, you have no right of being mad because a generous husband won’t ask his woman where her money been spent and on what.

However, the relationship between spouses should be based on respect, harmony and mutual understanding, since helping the husband is recommended in order to surpass the obstacle of life whether this life or in the hereafter matter.

In addition, any help given by the wife to the husband or to their house has the same reward of a charity, that’s why she is recommended to help the husband as regards the house expenditures even if his salary was sufficient for that, because her help will have a great and positive affect for achieving family’s happiness and satisfaction so long as they have mutual consent. But if they couldn’t keep up with their relation, then they should look for pious intermediates relatives. Finally, we (Iftaa’ Dept) would like to remind you of the following narration, where the Prophet (PBUH) said (What means):” If anyone continually asks pardon, Allah will appoint for him a way out of every distress, and a relief from every anxiety, and will provide for him from where he did not reckon.”. And Allah knows best.
