On the Occasion of Launching the Iftaa` Department`s Website

All perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions. This website serves as a means for the General Iftaa Department in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to communicate with the Muslim community, receive their questions and inquiries, and provide answers, God willing. Through this website, they can also access the research and information available at the Department that it wishes to share with them. The Department is an official entity as it is one of the academic institutions in the kingdom. Therefore, it is keen on providing accurate and verified answers. It has entrusted a group of muftis working within the Department to answer questions. They formulate the answers and discuss them among themselves, taking into consideration the evidence from the Quran, the Sunna of the Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him), and the deductions of the Islamic jurists whose opinions and interpretations are accepted and respected by the Muslim community. A group of competent researchers assists the muftis. The Department has a committee that addresses issues requiring a collective fatwa (Religious edict). However, for emerging matters, issues of general societal concern, and cases forwarded to the Department by official entities such as ministries, these fall under the jurisdiction of the Iftaa` Council, which comprises a select group of scholars. For matters requiring specialized knowledge, the Council may also seek expertise from specialists in fields like medicine, chemistry, and astronomy. The Department exchanges opinions and expertise with fatwa institutions in the Arab countries. It also welcomes suggestions from readers who have experience in managing such websites. Additionally, we encourage receiving questions related to Islamic sciences, and we pray to Allah for guidance in providing accurate answers. Asking scholars about religious matters is a religious duty. Allah, The Almighty Says (What means): "So ask the people of the message if you do not know" [An-Nahl/43]. The Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) also said: "Why did they not ask when they did not know? The only cure for ignorance is to ask." [Abu Dawood]. This is because a Muslim is keen to ensure that their actions are in accordance with Islamic law. Allah The Exalted Says (what means): "So whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter]" [Taha/123]. In conclusion, we hope to assist our Muslim brothers in understanding the religious rulings so that they may act upon them. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Mohammad, and upon his family and companions, all together., all together.

What is the best manner in distributing the meat of the Aqeeqah?

It is better to divide all of it as cooked meat amongst the poor and the needy. Dividing it into three portions is a Sunnah, but it is permissible to keep all of it provided that a portion, even a small one, is given to the poor and needy (one kilo for example).

Is it permissible for a father to divide his property amongst his children except one under the pretext that he has paid for the latter`s tuition? This is knowing that his other children were given the opportunity to pursue their education but didn`t because they were educationally poor. Moreover, is he allowed to give his other children who have helped him with growing his business?

The father should be just between his children as regards gifts, in case they had similar circumstances. However, if any had a special merit, then it is permissible for the father to take that into account to be just. For example, giving his children who have helped in making his fortune and received no reward for that or giving the little ones because they haven`t taken as much as the older ones or giving the sick child who is unable to make a living. The most important thing is achieving justice. Moreover, the father is not interdicted by any of his children, and he is free to do whatever he wants with his money and Allah will call him to account as regards observing justice between his children. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.

Is the woman who do breastfeeding permitted to break the fast during Ramadan?

It is permissible for pregnant and breastfeeding women to break their fast during Ramadan if they fear harm to themselves or their child. However, they must make up for the missed fasts. If the fast is broken out of concern for the fetus or the baby, expiation (Fidya) is also required along with making up the missed fasts. The expiation involves feeding one needy person with an amount equivalent to a Mudd of food (approximately 600 grams of wheat or rice) for each day of missed fasts. If the fast is broken out of concern for the woman's own health, only making up missed fasts is obligatory. And Allah Knows Best.
 
 
 
 
 
 

We collect funds from mosques and other sources, saying: "For the poor, the needy, widows, orphans, and those who do not beg insistently." After paying the stipends of the families registered with the Zakat Committee, an amount exceeding 6,000 dinars remained. Is it permissible for me to save it for upcoming months when I may not be able to collect the stipends?

These funds are received by the committee as representatives of the zakat payers to deliver zakat to those entitled to it. It is well-known that delaying zakat while being able to pay it is not permissible. Imam Al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Zakat must be paid immediately if one is able to do so, by the presence of wealth and the eligible categories." [Al-Minhaj] Therefore, the committee must distribute the zakat to the eligible recipients without installment payments or using it to purchase material goods for them, as the committee does not have authority over the poor to allocate it in this way. And Allah Knows Best.
