The Fatwa Department of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was founded in 1921. Since its formation, it has relied upon Hanafi fatwas which were in use during the Ottoman era, and the Mufti has answered the questions of members of the public, whether they relate to worship or financial transactions or personal statutes, and it has assigned a mufti to each judge in cities both large and small. I`m a cashier at a branch of the Civil Service Consumer Corporation. Sometimes, customers pay more than the due amount. Do I have the right to take that extra money knowing that I cover shortages from my own salary?

All perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May Allah`s peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.

If customers give that money willingly to help you with the potential loss then this is permissible. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.

What is the ruling on reciting verses of the Holy Quran on water, then drinking it?

It is permissible to recite Quran on water, then drink it as a kind of treatment since the Quran heals. Allah, The Almighty, Says (What means): "We send down (stage by stage) in the Qur’an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe: to the unjust it causes nothing but loss after loss." [Al-Isra`/82].

Is it permissible for a person who hasn`t made ablution to call for prayer (Adhan)?

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds. It is disliked for a person with a minor impurity to call for prayer, but if he does , then it`s valid and sufficient. And Allah Knows Best.

What is the expiation for perjury?

Perjury is forbidden and one of the major sins that require turning to Allah in repentance, seeking His forgiveness, giving back rights to whom they belong, or seeking their forgiveness, and expiating for that oath.

No, it does not, and it is preferable to wash the hands afterwards.

If someone unknowingly bought stolen cement multiple times, and if the seller is revealed, will my husband bear any sin?

The sin of the theft falls on the one who stole. However, the person who used the cement must pay its value to the rightful owner from whom it was stolen, and then seek reimbursement from the seller. If the thief compensates the rightful owner, there is no liability on the person who used the cement. And Allah Almighty Knows Best.

What is the ruling on discharges that occur two or three days before the menstrual period, accompanied by a light blood color? Should I stop praying during this period?

Brownish, yellowish, and reddish discharges are considered part of menstruation if they occur within the menstrual period, provided that the total duration does not exceed fifteen days from the first discharge to the end of the cycle; in this case, all of it is considered menstruation.

What is the amount of Zakah (obligatory charity) due on articles of merchandise?

The amount of Zakah due on articles of merchandise is (2.5%) of each article`s value after a whole lunar year had lapsed.
