In order not to Regret the Passing of Ramadan

Amman, the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, is decorated with lights and lanterns celebrating the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan. A sign of joy and pleasure for receiving this honorable guest who brought with it acts of devotion that bring a servant closer to His Lord. In this blessed month, Muslims observe fast following the command of Allah declaring their servitude to Him and attachment to His religion. Coming closer to Allah through observing this act is the true joy since this is what Ramadan represents in a Muslim`s mentality.

Unfortunately, some Muslims fail to grasp the true message of Ramadan by thinking that this month is all about food, drinks, feats, soap operas or Ramadan nights tents, and deviate from the straight path to that of worldly pleasures and desires. On the contrary, Ramadan comes to curb desires and pleasures; not to cause a Muslim to indulge in them. Being a season for obedience and worship, a Muslim should rejoice at its arrival and not have a sense of fear or discomfort for having to observe fast during the summer heat and long days nor complain from thirst or hunger. Rather, a Muslim should seize this golden opportunity that brings him/her closer to the Creator of the universe, Allah. This closeness is tantamount to food for the soul and tranquility for the heart. Allah Says {What means}: "Say: "In the bounty of God. And in His Mercy, - in that let them rejoice": that is better than the (wealth) they hoard." {Younis/58}. 

A Muslim should pray that Allah Lets him/her witness the blessed days of Ramadan in which good deeds are multiplied, evil deeds are erased, and people are pardoned and emancipated from Hell fire. In simple terms, Ramadan is a door for goodness that every Muslims wants to pass through. In addition, there is a great deal of recompense for supplication, which is an act of worship. It is also a means of asking Allah Who has the power to achieve anything; however, one should trust that Allah will answer his/her prayer. Allah The Almighty Says {What means}: "And your Lord says: "Call on Me; I will answer your (Prayer): but those who are too arrogant to serve Me will surely find themselves in Hell - in humiliation!" {Ghafir/ 60}.

Witnessing the blessed month of Ramadan is a great blessing that Allah bestows on His servants as they are given an extra opportunity to repent and multiply their balance of good deeds. It is unfortunate to say that many of our Muslim brothers passed away without having witnessed this month and received its great reward. Therefore, it is the duty of every servant to be grateful to Allah for this generous blessing and through this attitude; he/she becomes entitled to more and more blessings.

A Muslim should take advantage of this month successfully and a successful investment needs successful planning because the general rule says: "Failure to plan is planning to fail." Ramadan is very short for its days are numbered and some Muslims spend it sleeping, eating, drinking, working, and other commitments leaving no room for worship and obedience. Ramadan is like a spectrum; no sooner it arrives than it departs.

This blessed month needs a Muslim to arrange his/her time, divide duties, observe priorities and give precedence to the most important. Failing to do so means having missed a great opportunity to be emancipated from Hell fire and having a great sense of regret at a time when regret will be of no avail.

What is the Sharia basis of the Udhiyah?

The Sharia basis of the Udhiyah (sacrificial offering) is firmly established through the Quran, the Sunnah, and the Consensus (Ijma') of the Muslims:
1. Evidence from the Holy Quran
Allah the Exalted says {what means}: "And the camels and cattle We have appointed for you as among the symbols of Allah; for you therein is good." [Al-Hajj/36]. He also says {what means}: "So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone]" [Al-Kawthar/2]. According to the most well-known scholarly interpretations of this verse, "prayer" refers to the Eid prayer, and "sacrifice" refers to the slaughtering of the Udhiyah.
2. Evidence from the Sunnah
Al-Bara' bin 'Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: "The first thing we start with on this day of ours is to pray, then we return and sacrifice. Whoever does that has followed our Sunnah, and whoever slaughters before [the prayer], it is merely meat he has provided for his family; it is not part of the ritual sacrifice in any way" [Reported by Bukhari & Muslim].
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "The Prophet ﷺ sacrificed two white rams with horns. He slaughtered them with his own hand, mentioned the name of Allah (Tasmiyah), and said the Takbir" [Reported by Bukhari & Muslim].
3. Evidence from Scholarly Consensus (Ijma')
The Muslims have reached a unanimous consensus on the Sharia basis of the Udhiyah, and no one among the scholars has disagreed with this. [Al-Sherbini, Mughni al-Muhtaj, Vol.6/P.122].And Allah the Exalted knows best.

What is the ruling on performing the Witr prayer as a single rak`ah?

Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon our Master, the Messenger of Allah.
 
It is permissible to perform the Witr prayer as a single unit (rak‘ah). It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that a man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the night prayer, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied: 'The night prayer is offered two by two (mathna mathna). If one of you fears the approach of dawn, let him pray a single rak‘ah to make what he has prayed odd-numbered (Witr) for him.' (Related by al-Bukhari & Muslim)). However, limiting the prayer to only one rak‘ah is considered 'contrary to the preferred way' (Khilaf al-Awla).
 
It is stated in Al-Minhaj al-Qawim Sharh al-Muqaddimah al-Hadramiyyah (p. 137): 'The minimum of Witr is one rak‘ah, but limiting it to that is contrary to what is best.'
 
The most complete form of Witr is eleven units, while the minimum level of 'perfection' is three units. It is stated in ‘Umdat al-Salik (p. 60): 'The minimum of Witr is one rak‘ah, and its maximum is eleven, performing the taslim (salutation) after every two units. The lowest level of perfection is three units with two separate taslims (meaning 2+1).' And Allah the Exalted knows best.

What are the conditions for the validity of the slaughtering process according to Sharia?

Regarding the Sharia-mandated conditions for the validity of the slaughtering process (Adh-Dhabh), they are as follows:
 
The Identity of the Slaughterer: The person performing the slaughter must be either a Muslim or from the People of the Book (Christian or Jewish).
 
The Required Cuts: Both the trachea (windpipe/breathing passage) and the esophagus (food passage) must be completely severed.
 
Stability of Life: The animal must possess stable life at the start of the slaughtering process. This is identified by clear signs, such as vigorous movement or the forceful gushing of blood after the throat and esophagus are cut.
 
The Tool of Slaughter: The tool used must be sharp, capable of cutting or piercing by its edge and not by its sheer weight or blunt force.

Is it permissible for a woman to lead other women in prayer?

Yes, it is permissible for a woman to lead other women in prayer. The most knowledgeable among them in the rulings of prayer should act as the imam. She should stand in the middle of the row, slightly ahead of the others.
