Resolution No.(15) by the Board of Iftaa`, Research and Islamic Studies:

"Ruling on Paying Zakat Funds in Support of the Palestinian Uprising“

Date: 10/8/1410 AH, 7/3/1990 AD

We have received the following question:

What is the ruling of Sharia on paying Zakat funds in support of the Palestinian uprising?

Answer: All success is due to Allah.

It is permissible to pay Zakat (alms/obligatory charity) funds to support the uprising of our brothers in the occupied territories since they are resisting the disbelievers, who have seized the blessed land, and are defending Islamic sanctities and honors. Therefore, they are entitled to receive Zakat for being included in one of the eight categories eligible for it, and that is: “For the cause of Allah“ Consequently, Muslim scholars have permitted that the Mujahidin (fighters in the cause of Allah) and the steadfast there (Palestine) receive their share within that category. This ruling is based on the verse: “The alms are only for the poor and the needy, and those who collect them, and those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and to free the captives and the debtors, and for the cause of Allah, and (for) the wayfarer; a duty imposed by Allah. Allah is Knower, Wise.” {At-Tawba/60}. And Allah Knows Best.

Can the Christian widow whose married from a Muslim become an heir of his?

All perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.
A Christian widow can`t inherit her Muslim husband because their religions are different. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.

My brother is settling a debt on my behalf and in return he takes 30% interest as an additional amount of the whole sum. Is this lawful or not?

This additional amount is considered prohibited interest (Riba) according to Islamic law, and it is not permissible to take it. And Allah Knows Best.

I`m getting old and haven`t got married yet. I love wearing the veil, but people advised me to take it off because it could stand in the way of my marriage, and that I should wear it after getting married, what should I do?

The veil (face drape) is the wear of the Prophet`s (PBUH) wives and righteous female companions (May Allah be pleased with them) and whoever imitates a certain group of people shall receive the same reward or punishment like themselves. Only those who are religiously poor deny women wearing the veil, and thinking that it stops a woman from getting married is from the evil suggestions of the devil.

What is the Islamic ruling regarding a person finding buried treasure, whether gold or artifacts, and what is their share of it?

If the buried treasure is Islamic, it is considered Luqta (lost property), and the finder must announce it to locate its owner. If all efforts to find the owner fail, the finder may take ownership of it. If the treasure is non-Islamic and consists of gold or silver, zakat must be paid on it, which is one-fifth of its value. And Allah Knows Best.
