The Fatwa Department of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was founded in 1921. Since its formation, it has relied upon Hanafi fatwas which were in use during the Ottoman era, and the Mufti has answered the questions of members of the public, whether they relate to worship or financial transactions or personal statutes, and it has assigned a mufti to each judge in cities both large and small. Is it permissible for a father to disinherit his disobedient, alcohol consuming son and his daughter who had fled home and never returned?

It is permissible to give heirs some money because of their being extra obedient or needy. As far as inheritance is concerned, it is to be divided after one`s death, so it had better be left to the court itself. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.

What is the ruling on shaving the head of the newborn?

It is desirable to shave the head of the newborn on the seventh day from delivery, and the weight of his/her hair is given in gold , or silver as charity.

During a flight from Amman to the UAE, while we were flying over Saudi Arabia, the captain announced that it was time to break our fast, coinciding with the exact time of sunset. After I had broken my fast with my first date, the captain apologized for the earlier announcement and clarified that the correct time would be in 20 minutes. Am I required to continue fasting on that day?

Whosoever break his fast at teh very first announcement to make up the missed day of Ramadan, since Allah, The Most Exalted, Said (What means): "then complete your fast Till the night appears" [Al-Baqara/187]. And Allah Knows Best.

I`m a god-fearing woman. I`m two months pregnant but my husband insists that I have an abortion?

It isn`t permissible for you to abort the fetus unless it endangers the mother`s life. Therefore, try to convince your husband to change his mind and encourage him to pay us a visit. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.

Statement on the Stabbing of the Tourists

All perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May His peace and blessings be upon Prophet Mohammad, his family and noble companions.

Attacking tourists is a heinous crime that contradicts the teachings of our Islamic religion, which commands honoring the guest and preserving the sanctity of human beings.

Neither custom nor religion condone such crime and it is not related to our inherent Arab Islamic morality in this blessed country of safety and security.

We ask Allah to protect Jordan to remain an oasis of security and stability. The General Iftaa` Department

You should exercise patience, make supplication that Allah guides him to the straight path, and keep advising him kindly.
