Question :
Last Ramadan, my sister-in-law gave birth by caesarean section. Five days later, the blood discharged of her womb ceased, so she took a ritual bath (Ghusl) and made the intention to fast what is left of Ramadan. Is her fast valid? Or is it obligatory that she makes up for the missed days.
The Answer :
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds, and may His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.
If the blood ceased, even after a few days from delivery, the post-partum period is over, and so a woman isn`t obliged to wait for forty or sixty days to become pure.
This is because Al-Imam Al-Sharbini (May Allah have mercy on his soul) said (What means): "The minimum of the post-partum period lasts only for a short time. This is since it was mentioned in the book [Al-Rawdah]: "There is no specific time for the post-partum period, and any amount of blood discharged of a woman`s womb indicates that she is still in that period." [Moghni Al-Mohtajj vol.1/pp.294]. And Allah Knows Best.
