All perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May His peace and blessings be upon Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.
There is no sin in writing Quranic verses on walls, engraving them on them (walls), or hanging them in the form of plaques if the following conditions are met:
1- The verses are written with pure materials and on something pure.
2- The writing is not subjected to disrespect, contamination, or tampering.
3- The verses are written on sturdy walls or with materials that preserve what is written on them, so that they are not quickly eroded.
This is because the dislike or prohibition of writing the Holy Quran on walls, as mentioned by some scholars, is explained by what used to occur in the past regarding the possibility of the wall falling or being exposed to dirt or disrespect. It is stated in [Al-Fatawa Al-Hindiyya/Vol.5/P.323]: "If the Quran is written on walls and partitions, some said: it is hoped that it is permissible, and some disliked that for fear of falling under people's feet."
Moreover, Al-Imam Al-Dardir Al-Maliki, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "Engraving is disliked, even if it is the Quran, and it should be forbidden; because it leads to its degrading, as they mentioned. The same applies to engraving the Quran and the names of Allah on walls" [Al-Sharh Al-Kabir, Vol.1/P.425].
In addition, Al-Imam Al-Khatib Al-Shirbini Al-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "It is disliked to write the Quran on a wall, ceiling, even if it is of a mosque, clothes, food, and the like" [Mughni Al-Muhtaj, Vol.1/P.152].
Furthermore, Al-Imam Al-Ruhaybani Al-Suyuti Al-Hanbali, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "It is disliked to write the Quran on curtains and on what is likely to be treated carelessly" [Matalib Uli Al-Nuha/Vol. 1/P.156].
The apparent meaning of the preceding texts is that the reason for the dislike or prohibition according to the esteemed scholars is the fear of exposing the writing to disrespect through its falling, or its being affected by contamination and the like, and no other reason appears.
In conclusion, there is no sin in writing the Quran on walls if the aforementioned conditions are observed; for by fulfilling them, the reason for prohibition is eliminated.
We emphasize the obligation to consult the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs to obtain its approval for launching this project, as it is the authority responsible for the printing and distribution of the Qur'an. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.
