Question :

Will Allah hold a servant accountable for their sins on the Day of Judgment in front of all people, especially their family and spouse

The Answer :

All perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May His peace and blessings be upon Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.

On the Day of Judgment, Allah, The Exalted and Glorious, will gather all of creation for reckoning. They will be divided into categories: believers, disbelievers, and hypocrites. As for the believers, Allah, The Exalted and Glorious, will conceal their sins during the reckoning, for Allah is the Most Concealing, and He loves to conceal. If He conceals a servant's faults in this world, He will not expose them in the Hereafter.

As for the disbelievers and hypocrites, they will be held accountable in front of all the witnesses. Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Indeed, Allah brings the believer closer and casts His veil over him, concealing him. Then He says: "Do you recognize such and such a sin? Do you recognize such and such a sin?" And he will say: "Yes, O my Lord,' until He has made him confess all his sins, and he sees in his heart that he is doomed. Then He says: "I concealed it for you in the world, and I forgive it for you today.' "Then he is given the record of his good deeds. But as for the disbelievers and hypocrites, the witnesses will say: "These are the ones who lied against their Lord. Indeed, the curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers." [Hud/18] [Al-Bukhari]. Thus, from the mercy of Allah, The Exalted, is that He conceals a servant's faults in this world, so it is all the more likely that He will conceal them from his children and wife in the Hereafter as well.

This [Hadith] clearly indicates that this concealment encompasses all believers, as it only excludes hypocrites and disbelievers. The renowned scholar Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani (May Allah have mercy on him) said: Al-Mihlab said: "In the hadith, Allah has favored His servants by concealing their sins on the Day of Judgment, and that He forgives the sins of whomever He Wills, contrary to the saying of those who extend the threat to the believers; because in this hadith, He did not exclude anyone from His concealment and covering except the disbelievers and hypocrites." [Fatih Al-Bari/Vol. 10/P.488].

In conclusion, it is evident that Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, will conceal all of His believing servants on the Day of Judgment and will not expose them, for He is the Most Concealing. As for those who are called out upon on front of all creation and witnesses, they are the people of disbelief and hypocrisy. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.
