Question :

Is using Bitmoji through social media prohibited?

The Answer :

Praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds, and may His Peace and Blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all of his family and companions.

Bitmoji is a technology that allows users to create digital visual characters that closely resemble their real personalities, making it possible for others to recognize the true person behind the digital image. This technology is used through social media platforms such as Snapchat, WhatsApp, Facebook, and others.

The ruling on using this technology depends on the nature of its use and the content being shared involving these images. If the content and form being exchanged do not conflict with the rulings, values, and morals of Sharia, then it is permissible to use them. Otherwise, it is not permissible.

Therefore, it is necessary to observe the following Sharia guidelines when using such technologies and avoid the following matters:

First: The image includes religious violations or is used in unlawful content, such as revealing private parts, appearing in a manner forbidden by Sharia, and the like.

Second: Mocking, ridiculing, or bullying others, Since Allah, The Exalted says (What means): "O ye who believe! Let not some men among you laugh at others: It may be that the (latter) are better than the (former): Nor let some women laugh at others: It may be that the (latter are better than the (former)" [Al-Hujurat/11].

Third: Lying, forgery, deceit, or falsification.

In conclusion, if the religious guidelines are followed and the aforementioned prohibitions are avoided in this type of digital images, it is permissible to use them. Otherwise, it is not permissible. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.
