All perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.
It is not permissible for humans to determine their fate or that of others in the Hereafter, except for a prophet or messenger who receives revelation from Allah. Even if a Muslim dies as a martyr, it is not permissible to assert with certainty their fate, as the final reward in the Hereafter is among the matters over which Allah, the Almighty, has exclusive authority. The Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him, discouraged delving into such matters. Narrated Kharija bin Zaid bin Thabit: Um Al-`Ala', an Ansari woman who gave the pledge of allegiance to the Prophet (PBUH) said to me, "The emigrants were distributed amongst us by drawing lots and we got in our share `Uthman bin Maz'un. We made him stay with us in our house. Then he suffered from a disease which proved fatal when he died and was given a bath and was shrouded in his clothes, Allah's Messenger (PBUH) came I said, 'May Allah be merciful to you, O Abu As-Sa'ib! I testify that Allah has honored you'. The Prophet (PBUH) said, 'How do you know that Allah has honored him?' I replied, 'O Allah's Messenger (PBUH)! Let my father be sacrificed for you! On whom else shall Allah bestow His honor?' The Prophet (PBUH) said, 'No doubt, death came to him. By Allah, I too wish him good, but by Allah, I do not know what Allah will do with me though I am Allah's Messenger (PBUH). ' By Allah, I never attested the piety of anyone after that." {Transmitted by Bukhari}.
Obedience is not divisible, and showing kindness to parents is a form of obedience among others. It does not exempt an individual from other religious obligations such as prayers, fasting, alms-giving, pilgrimage, and abstaining from all prohibited actions. One should not be judged solely based on apparently righteous deeds while engaging in major sins and forbidden acts.
If a Muslim commits a major sin while also performing acts of kindness towards their parents, it does not mean they will enter Paradise without accountability. Rather, they may be punished for the major sin unless they repent. Allah may forgive them, as the person who commits a major sin and dies before repentance may be punished but will not abide in Hell forever. This is according to the Sunni tradition/Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jama`a. The individuals entering Hell are of two types: disbelievers who will remain there and sinful believers who will be punished for their sins proportionately and eventually exit Hell by Allah's mercy to enter Paradise. Allah says {What means}: " Those who are wretched shall be in the Fire: There will be for them therein (nothing but) the heaving of sighs and sobs: They will dwell therein for all the time that the heavens and the earth endure, except as thy Lord willeth: for thy Lord is the (sure) accomplisher of what He planneth. And those who are blessed shall be in the Garden: They will dwell therein for all the time that the heavens and the earth endure, except as thy Lord willeth: a gift without break." {Hud, 106-108}.
In the book "I'thaf Al-Murid Sharh Jawharat Al-Tawhid, Page 240" by the Maliki scholar Abdul Salam Al-Laqani, it is mentioned: "The believers do not abide eternally in the Fire if they enter it, for they are the fortunate ones, and their eternal abode is Paradise. It is understood that the perpetuity of punishment for those who abide in it is exclusive to them, and others will not endure the torment for the entire duration of their stay. This applies to the sinful monotheists, as they die at some point after entering, and Allah knows the duration, and they will not live until they exit. Inside the Fire, they experience the punishment with a specific type or multiple types of torment for the duration of their stay."
The believers who committed major sins and did not repent, if they are not encompassed by intercession or forgiveness will be punished for their sins, but they will not abide eternally in the Fire. Instead, they will eventually be taken out of it and enter Paradise, where they will reside forever. This concept is supported by a hadith narrated by Imam Bukhari in which the Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever dies without associating anything with Allah will enter Paradise," even if they undergo punishment before entering.
In conclusion, it is incumbent upon the husband to avoid major sins, and he should not be deceived by his being dutiful to his parents, as he does not know whether this righteous deed has been accepted or not. However, we advise the wife to invite her husband with wisdom and fair preaching. We ask Allah to guide him and all the Muslims. And Allah the Almighty knows best.
