Question :
What is the ruling of Sharia on "Allah is Sufficient for me, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs"? Is it a kind of supplication (Du`aa) or carries a negative meaning?
The Answer :
All perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May His peace and blessings be upon Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.
Saying, "Allah is Sufficient for me, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs" doesn't imply inappropriate meaning at all. Rather, it is a form of supplication and committing one`s affairs to Allah the Almighty. Allah says {What means}: "Men said to them: "A great army is gathering against you": And frightened them: But it (only) increased their Faith: They said: "For us God sufficeth, and He is the best disposer of affairs." {Al-Emran, 173}.
An-Nawawi {May Allah have mercy on him} said: "It is recommended for a Muslim to say "Allah is Sufficient for me, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs" in every situation. Allah says {What means}: "But if they turn away, Say: "God sufficeth me: there is no god but He: On Him is my trust,- He the Lord of the Throne (of Glory) Supreme!" {At-Tawbah, 129}. He the Almighty also says {What means}: "………. "For us God sufficeth, and He is the best disposer of affairs." {Al-Emran, 173}. Ibn 'Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) said: When (Prophet) Ibrahim (Abraham) was thrown into the fire, he said: "Allah (Alone) is sufficient for us, and, He is the Best Disposer of affairs." So did Messenger of Allah Muhammad (Peace be upon him) when he was told: "A great army of the pagans had gathered against him, so fear them". But this (warning) only increased him and the Muslims in Faith and they said: "Allah (Alone) is sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us)". [Al-Bukhari]. This was followed by Al-Shirazi and other scholars where they finish up their books with "Allah is Sufficient for me, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs." {Al-Majmou` Shareh Al-Mohathab, V.1:78}. And Allah the Almighty knows best.
