Question :

What is the purpose behind performing Hajj (Major pilgrimage)? Is it an act of devotion or an Islamic conference or both? And is the latter meant for some of Muslim scholars?

The Answer :

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds, and may His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all of his family and companions.

Hajj is an act of devotion and one of the Pillars of Islam, in addition acts of devotion are performed for one purpose which is the adherence to the ordainments of Allah, The Exalted.

Further, performing Hajj has many benefits for pilgrims; the people of Hijaz in particular and Muslims in general, for Allah, The Exalted Said (What means): " That they may witness things that are of benefit to them." [Al-Hajj/28]. Besides, those benefits are countless and some of them might took place in an era while others might be in different eras.

Besides, Hajj itself is a great conference whereas Muslims gather and get acquainted with one another formally and informally; thus, as Hajj is taking place, meeting new people in addition to scholars' conferring who represent our nation is taking place as well. Finally, we hope that this conference is more comprehensive and its issues are more general. Allah is The Grantor of Success.
