Question :

I have had an operation to remove a tumor from my lower abdomen. After that, I lost my ability to have children. A year later, I had another surgery and, thanks to Allah, it was successful and doctors told me that I can have children. I proposed to two women and told them about what happened to me, but their parents refused fearing that I could still be sterile. Now, I`m about to propose to a new woman. Should I tell her about that surgery to avoid being turned down or it isn`t permissible to do so?

The Answer :

All perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May His peace and blessings be upon Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.

Sterility isn`t a valid reason for the dissolution of the marriage contract, however, you should treat others as you like to be treated. Thus, if a man who has the same condition proposes to your sister or daughter, you wouldn`t approve that he hides the truth. The evidence on this is that 'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al-'As (May Allah be pleased with them) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "He who desires to be rescued from the fire of Hell and to enter Jannah,

should die in a state of complete belief in Allah and the Last Day, and should do unto others what he wishes to be done unto him." {Realted by Muslim}.

In conclusion, We (Iftaa` Department) advise you not to hide your condition and Allah will reward you with a pious wife, and remember that Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "He who takes up arms against us is none of us; and he who cheats us is none of us." [Muslim]. And Allah The Almighty Knows Best.
